Ever Evolving GT Sophy Shows Off its True Potential in Exhibition Match at the World Finals
Sony AI presented the latest developments in their autonomous racing AI agent 'Gran Turismo Sophy' (GT Sophy) along with an exhibition race at the 'Gran Turismo World Series' 2022 World Finals, which was held in Monaco from 24 to 27 November.
This exhibition race pitted the AI agent against top World Finals drivers picked from every corner of the globe. The drivers tasked with beating the newest evolution of GT Sophy were Valerio Gallo, Igor Fraga, Emily Jones, and Takuma Miyazono. GT Sophy is a revolutionary racing AI agent launched in 2020, designed to compete against top Gran Turismo drivers and create new gaming experiences. At the start of development, the AI that could not even drive in a straight line, let alone overtake a human driver. Through repeated training using cutting edge deep reinforcement learning and cloud gaming infrastructure though, the AI has evolved far enough to be able to take on the world's top level Gran Turismo drivers.
The project held its first exhibition race 'Race Together 2021' in June 2021, and on 10 February this year was featured in the 'Nature' magazine.
