Mardenborough draws closer to the All Japan F3 title, taking a double victory at Motegi
MOTEGI, Japan (August 20 and 21, 2016) – The 2011 European GT Academy Champion, Jann Mardenborough, continues to impress the racing world as he records two consecutive victories in Races 11 and 12 of the All Japan F3 Championships held at Twin Ring Motegi. The double win in the open-wheel formula series gives him a wider lead in the overall series championships.
Mardenborough overcame wet conditions in qualifying for the first race, recording the second fastest time for Race 11 and following it up with the fastest overall time for Race 12.
For Race 12, held on the following day, the rain clouds disappeared, allowing the contest to be run under full dry conditions. Starting from the pole, Mardenborough was at full wick right away, leaving behind the rest of the pack in his dust. By lap 10, he opened up a four-second lead and cruised to the checker.
With the two wins at Motegi, Mardenborough now stands at 85 championship points, which is 19 points ahead of 2nd-place Kenta Yamashita. And with only four more races left in the season—at Okayama and Sugo—he is in a great position to win his first F3 championships.
