4. 2020 CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2020 Championships will comprise of the following 3 events:

3World Finals

1Online Series

These races will make up the core of the championships. Anyone can participate in the Online Series from within the 'Sport' mode of GT Sport.

Nations Cup Online Series
The Nations Cup Online Series will be held as a 6-month-long competition from March to September.
The Series will be divided into 4 Stages, each made up of 10 Rounds (where 1 Round includes a Qualifying and a Final Race) for a total of 40 Rounds.
By participating in an online race, competitors will be awarded with points based on their race performance. These points will determine competitors' positions in the rankings, which will be updated at the end of every Round.
At the end of each Stage, according to their ranking, competitors may qualify as 'Star Players' (see below) and may be selected to participate in World Tours (see below).
Eligibility to participate in the World Finals will be decided based on a combination of competitors' rankings at the end of the Online Series and their performance at World Tour live events throughout the year.

The overall ranking is based on an effective points system: at the end of each Stage, the final score will be tallied from the best 1/4 Rounds out of the total for that Stage (with half numbers rounded up).

For example:

- After 10 rounds (10/4=2.5, rounded up) the best 3 Rounds will be tallied for the final score.

- After 40 Rounds at the end of the 2020 Series, the competitors' best 10 Rounds will be tallied for the final score.

(The dates of the World Tours may be changed or cancelled.)

Nations Cup

The participation in a Nations Cup World Tour will be determined according to the following criterion:

Top competitors in the Online Series rankings from each Region at the time of selection. However, there will be a limit to the number of players from a single country (or territory), as shown below:

Maximum number of competitors from each Region and country/territory for the World Tours
  Selections Competitors per country/territory
Europe/Middle East/Africa 10 Maximum 2 per country (3 when this region is host)
North America 3 Maximum 2 per country (3 when this region is host)
Central & South America 3 Maximum 2 per country (3 when this region is host)
Asia 4 Maximum 3 per country (4 when this region is host)
Oceania 2 Maximum 2 per country (3 when this region is host)
Host Region 2 additional competitors
  Total24 competitors
(If participation slots open due to withdrawals and selection limitations, competitor selections will be made from the top of the rankings list.
This selection method does not apply to "World Tour 2020 - Sydney".)
Manufacturer Series

The participation in a Manufacturer Series World Tour will be determined according to the following criteria:

Manufacturers Selection

A total of 12 manufacturers will be selected to participate in a World Tour: in addition to the Official Partner Manufacturers (see below), the highest ranked manufacturers in the 'Global Manufacturer Ranking' at the end of each Selection Event will also be selected.

(See the 'Global Manufacturer Ranking' section below for more information.)

Official Partner Manufacturers

The following is a list of Official Partners for the 2020 Series.

Toyota
Mazda

(Other Official Partners may be added during the Series.)

Global Manufacturer Ranking

In the Manufacturer Series, a 'Global Manufacturer Ranking' will be created as described below.

1) A 'Manufacturer Ranking' will be created for each Region:
At the end of each Round, the position of a manufacturer in the 'Manufacturer Ranking' will be determined by the points acquired by its affiliated top driver (the driver who holds the highest-score for that manufacturer in that Round).
At the end of each Round, 'Manufacturer Ranking Points' will be assigned to each of the 25 manufacturers based on their position in the above-mentioned 'Manufacturer Ranking', as follows:
'Manufacturer Ranking Points' Distribution Table
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th
40 pts 36 pts 33 pts 30 pts 27 pts 24 pts 22 pts 20 pts 18 pts 16 pts 15 pts 14 pts 13 pts 12 pts 11 pts
16th 17th 18th 19th 20th 21st 22nd 23rd 24th 25th
10 pts 9 pts 8 pts 7 pts 6 pts 5 pts 4 pts 3 pts 2 pts 1 pt
If two or more affiliated drivers from different manufacturers are tied with an equal number of points at the end of a Round, then the Manufacturer Ranking Points assigned to their manufacturers will be divided and assigned equally.

For example: Player A (Toyota) and Player B (Mercedes-Benz) both have an individual score of 230 points. If both manufacturers are tied for 3rd in their Region, the points awarded for 3rd and 4th place will be added together with each team receiving half of the total (33+30=63/2=31.5 pts.)
2) The 'Global Manufacturer Ranking' will be created:
The points from the three (3) Regions with the highest Manufacturer Rankings Points for each manufacturer will be tallied to determine their 'Global Manufacturer Ranking'.
If two or more manufacturers have an equal number of points in the 'Global Manufacturer Ranking', the selection will be determined following these criteria:
a) the manufacturer with the highest Manufacturer Ranking Points across all five Regions; and
b) if still tied, the manufacturer with the highest Manufacturer Ranking Points across all five Regions and all Rounds; and
c) if still tied, then the manufacturer with the highest number of affiliated contracts registered at the end of the relevant Stage.
(The Global Manufacturer Ranking is calculated using the points from all Rounds.)
'Manufacturer Ranking Points' distribution per Round

1Europe/Middle East/Africa Region

Points acquired by the top players of each manufacturer

In each Round, the position of a manufacturer in the ranking is determined from the points acquired by that manufacturer's top drivers. Based on this ranking, Manufacturer Ranking Points are distributed.

Global Manufacturer Ranking
Competitors Selection

Each of the 12 manufacturers will select their representative drivers following these criteria:

1) The 3 Regions with the highest Manufacturer Ranking Points will be selected;
2) The top players from those 3 Regions are selected as that manufacturer's representatives.
(Note: unlike the Nations Cup, the number of World Tour victories will not be part of the selection criteria.)
If two or more Regions have an equal number of points in the 'Global Manufacturer Ranking', the selection will be determined following these criteria:
a) the Region with the highest Manufacturer Ranking Points across all Rounds; and
b) if still tied, then the Region with the highest Manufacturer Ranking Points in a single Round; and
c) if still tied, then the Region with the Representative Driver who scored the highest points.
If there are players who forfeit their participation, the next player will be selected following this order of priority:
a) the top player from the Region with the next highest Manufacturer Ranking Points (beginning from the 4th Region, and then 5th Region;)
b) then the player with the next highest Manufacturer Ranking Points from the same Region as the player who declined to participate.
Example: If the 'Manufacturer Ranking' Regions order for Toyota was Asia (1st), Europe/Middle East/Africa (2nd), North America (3rd), Oceania (4th), and Central & South America (5th), the top players in Asia, Europe/Middle East/Africa and North America would be the first candidates, but if the North American player were to forfeits, then the top player from the Oceania Region would be the next candidate.
World Tour Points

In each World Tour live event, the individual drivers and manufacturers who finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the final standing for the Nations Cup and Manufacturer Series will receive 'World Tour Points'.

'World Tour Points' will be added to the individual drivers and manufacturers' initial score at the World Finals.

Points Table
Rank 1st 2nd 3rd
Points 3 2 1
('World Tour Points' do not count towards eligibility for World Finals selection and are valid only for individual drivers and manufacturers participating in the World Finals.)

3 World Finals

This is a live event to determine the best driver in the world.

The World Final winner of the Nations Cup will be crowned Nations Cup 2020 Champion, and the winning team of the Manufacturer Series will be crowned Manufacturer Series 2020 Champion; both will be awarded at the FIA Prize-Giving Gala that takes place in December.
