Featured Cars Introduction

Toyota GR Yaris 1st Edition RZ "High performance" '20

This new WRC race car was created to carry on the legacy of Toyota's strong rallying tradition

Toyota has long been a dominant presence in the World Rally Championships, consistently contesting for the series championship year after year. After building a number of classic rally race cars, the company will be introducing its newest off-road competition machine in 2021: the GR Yaris.

At first, it may not look that different from the production hatchback, aside from the super wide rear fenders, but under the skin beats the heart of a serious racer. Built on a combination of the TNGA GA-B and GA-C platforms, the extremely lightweight body possesses increased rigidity. Its flowing profile, characterized by the low carbon-fiber roof, optimizes airflow.

Under the hood of the RZ model is the G16E-GTS, a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-3. Boasting the smallest size and lightest weight in its class, this unit produces 200 kW (268.2 HP)/370 Nm (272.7 ft-lb) and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four wheels via a newly developed electronically controlled coupling type center differential. The RZ High Performance model is equipped with Torsen LSDs for both the front and rear differentials, for maximum traction.

This "First Edition" model, introduced alongside the GR Yaris in January 2020, was offered to those who pre-ordered the car. Among other things, it featured special forged aluminum wheels and was autographed by Toyota "master driver" Morizo, who is in fact Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda.
