WORLD FINALS
The Repechage – One Last Chance for Four to Sneak in to the Finals. A Dramatic Battle of Constant Overtaking!
FIA Gran Turismo Championships 2018 World Finals / Nations Cup
26/11/2018

Only the top four drivers in this repechage race had a chance to proceed to the finals. The stage for this all or nothing battle was the ‘Red Bull Ring’. Behind the wheels of their easy-handling Gr.4 cars, the drivers put on a breathtaking show of overtaking throughout this heated race.

Chilean Nicolás Rubilar (FT_NicoR) found himself at the forefront, clear of any other cars as he took the first turn. As one would expect from a top-class driver of his calibre, he held firm through the corner that is infamous for accidents.

On the last corner of the first lap, Canadian Andrew Brooks (Deafsun96), who was holding fourth place, overran the turn. This fault landed him with a penalty that dropped him out of the top four.

The trouble didn’t end there, however. On lap three, a lapse on British Adam Suswillo’s (GTP_Aderrrm) part led to him losing second place to Australia’s Cody Nikola Latkovski (Nik_Makozi).

Suswillo (GTP_Aderrrm), slowing down because of his penalty, wound up losing his position to Italy’s Giorgio Mangano (Giorgio_57) and Portugal’s CarlosSalazar (pcm_stj). However, Suswillo (GTP_Aderrrm) was quick to bounce back, snatching fourth place from Salazar (pcm_stj).

The battle for first place up until this point had been in deadlock, but finally, on lap seven, Latkovski (Nik_Makozi) managed to get past Rubilar (FT_NicoR) to grab first place. Rubilar (FT_NicoR), rather than trying to take back the top position, opted to maintain his place in second.

In the end, Latkovski (Nik_Makozi) kept his lead and finished on top, the skills he picked up in his bouts against Japan’s top drivers in the Asia/Oceania Online Series serving him well here.

Behind him, Rubilar (FT_NicoR) secured second, Mangano (Giorgio_57) third and Suswillo (GTP_Aderrrm) fourth, bagging them all a ticket to the final.
