Nick McMillen announced as the 2013 GT Academy US Champion

This year more than 400,000 racers entered for the chance compete at Silverstone for the GT Academy crown but there can be only one. Nick McMillen from Salem, Oregon is the 2013 GT Academy Champion and NISMO Athlete.

It came down to the final turn in the final race in what was almost a repeat of the 2012 finals. Nick McMillen drove a tremendous race falling back to third and clawing his way through the pack to go head to head with Chris Hill. Chris had dominated, securing a healthy lead for the majority of the race but in the final corners it was Chris and Nick bumper to bumper. In the final turn onto the International Pits Straight a wide exit by Chris gave Nick just enough room to edge him out and claim victory in a thrilling conclusion to the 2013 GT Academy finals.

This was Nick McMillen’s second attempt at GT Academy having previously competed in the 2012 National Finals where he was eliminated in the semi-finals. Nick began training for the 2013 season immediately and showed the determination necessary to come back and take it all.

Nick is now training with the NISMO driver development program at Silverstone where he is racing and preparing for the ultimate prize: a European FIA GT3 racing season supported by Nissan. He will make his professional racing debut in the 2014 Dubai 24 Hours which kicks off the weekend of January 10th.

We congratulate Nick and all of the competitors of the 2013 GT Academy!
