Lincolnshire Police Turns to Gran Turismo Sport to Improve the Driving Skills of Officers

As part of the driver program for the Lincolnshire Police Department in the UK, officers trained on Gran Turismo Sport to improve their skills behind the wheel. And according to the results, it was a grand success.

Four officers participated in the training program, which was held at the famous Silverstone Circuit. First, they lapped the race course with their lap times recorded. Then, with the guidance of GT Academy instructors, they trained on Gran Turismo Sport, recording their lap times in virtual time trials featured in the game. Once they showed marked improvement in the game, they returned to the track, and all four officers not only achieved better lap times, they were smoother behind the wheels and their driving style was more stable.

“There will never be a replacement for traditional training methods, but we are always looking for innovative ways to supplement the learning of our officers and staff. If Gran Turismo can help to train world class racing drivers, then we were keen to explore whether it could offer anything to our officers and help expand the way we think about evolving and refreshing our training methods," the assistant chief constable of the Lincolnshire police said.

It just goes to show, again, how accurately Gran Turismo represents real-world driving.
