Round 1 of GT Academy, the ground-breaking competition that will give one Gran Turismo 5 player the opportunity of a lifetime to become a professional race car driver, ended on Sunday January with nearly 55,000 participants across the US. Consisting of three time trial events designed to test players' driving skills and mastery of the tracks using Nissan vehicles, Round 1 was just the first step in a series of online race challenges designed to discover the 16 best players in the country who will go on to compete head-to-head to become the GT Academy champion.

In addition to the main GT Academy grand prize, during each of the five weeks of Round 1, which was held December 20 to January 23, the top 20 fastest players with the fastest combined times on the national leaderboard will receive extra prizes. The fastest player nationally each week will receive one Playseat Revolution (Gran Turismo Edition) racing seat, one Logitech Driving Force™ GT wheel and one GT poster. The contestants that finish with the second through fifth fastest combined Time Trial Event times on the national leaderboard will receive one Logitech Driving Force™ GT wheel and one GT poster. Contestants that finish with the sixth through twentieth fastest combined Time Trial Event time on the national leaderboard will receive one GT poster. However, a contestant cannot win more than one of the same prize. For example, the fastest player during week 1 will win the Playseat, Logitech wheel and poster, but cannot win those prizes in subsequent weeks. If the same contestant finishes in the same winner bracket again during the competition, the prize will be awarded to the next person in line on the national leaderboard.

Below are the weekly winners for the prizes for each of the five weeks of Round 1. Please note that these are not the top 20 rankings for each of the five weeks, only the winners of the prizes, because players cannot win the same prize twice.
