1992 Honda Prelude Wins First 'Gran Turismo Award' After 7 Years of Hiatus

On 8 November, local time, the Gran Turismo World Series Rd.3 was held in Los Angeles, United States. Held alongside this event was the 'GT Fan Fest,' a Gran Turismo fan event where the 'GT Awards' for custom cars were held for the first time in seven years.

Of the many cars that were brought to the event by custom builders from all over the Los Angeles area, the winner of 'Best in Show' was a 1992 Honda Prelude.

This Prelude was created by Big Mike who is a well known figure in the Honda tuning scene. The base car is a fourth generation model Honda Prelude, first introduced in the 90s. Big Mike set out to take this 'overlooked' 90s Honda and use it as a canvas to create a world class custom car.

Big Mike's Prelude has been modified in the 'Restomod' style which updates classic cars with modern technology, but his approach shows true passion. The entire body was stripped down to a full restoration level, and every single nut and bolt replaced with new parts. The engine has been fitted with a Garrett GTX28 turbocharger in a bespoke setup, along with a custom radiator and custom oil and fuel systems.

The aesthetics take cues from both JDM and USDM styling, featuring a one-off front bumper styled in Big Mike's own original design language. The body colour is 'Nardo Grey,' a colour originally made famous by Audi, which adds a German high-performance touch to the mix. Additionally, the entire interior has been beautifully reupholstered in two different types of Alcantara suede.

This car is planned to be included in 'Gran Turismo' in the future, where you will be able experience its performance for yourself.
