Online Races

To Enjoy Smooth Online Racing

*The online services for “Gran Turismo 6” have been terminated. This function can no longer be used in-game.

Gran Turismo 6 will determine your bandwidth and NAT type based on your network environment. Your bandwidth and NAT type can be viewed when creating a room in Open Lobby mode, by selecting "Room Settings".

Bandwidth is an estimate of how much data can be transmitted in a set period of time. With higher bandwidth, there is less delay, and cars handle more realistically. NAT type is a way of classifying the IP address conversion functions of broadband routers etc. Some NAT types are unsuited to online racing.

Gran Turismo 6 uses these three NAT type classifications:

・Type 1
Your PlayStation®3 system is directly connected to the internet. This is the most suitable NAT type for online racing.
・Type 2
Your PlayStation®3 system is connected to the internet through a router. It is possible to secure a connection that is almost equivalent to a NAT type 1 connection by using UPnP or port forwarding. If your NAT type has been determined as 2, it may not be possible to take part in online races, depending on your connection environment. In such cases, please refer to the "About UPnP" and "About Port Forwarding" pages.
・Type 3
NAT type 3 is different to types 1 and 2. Players whose NAT type has been determined as 3 may not be able to take part in online races.

In Gran Turismo 6, players whose NAT type has been determined as 3 will experience the following differences in their gameplay experience:

・In the Open Lobby mode's Room Selection screen, only rooms which have fixed ownership are displayed.
・When creating a new room in Open Lobby mode, only rooms with fixed ownership can be created.
・The "Specify Room Number" option is not available on the Open Lobby mode's Room Selection screen.

Players whose bandwidth has been determined as "Very Low" or whose NAT type has been determined as 3 may experience an improved online racing experience by adjusting the following room settings. Please also refer to the "About UPnP" and "About Port Forwarding" pages.

・Select a race quality setting that's lower than the automatic setting.
・Reduce the max. number of players in the room.
・Disable voice chat.
