Jann Mardenborough Wins His First GT300 Race in Round 2 of the Super GT Series
OYAMA, Japan (May 4, 2016) – GT Academy graduate Jann Mardenborough won his first race in the GT300 Class at the “Fuji GT 500 km” held at the historic Fuji International Speedway, located at the foot of Japan’s most famous landmark, Mt. Fuji. The race was Round 2 of the Super GT season.
Mardenborough teamed up with Kazuki Hoshino in the B-MAX NDDP GT-R. They started in 5th position on the grid, and after a great start and a quick pit stop, Hoshino found his way to the top of the leaderboard. He held onto that position even after a yellow flag (from the GT500 contest), which bunched all the cars together. When Mardenborough took over the driving duties on Lap 73, the team already had a healthy cushion. Jann never surrendered that lead and brought the No. 3 car home with time to spare.
In only his second Super GT race, Mardenborough demonstrated why he was selected for this team as part of NISMO’s Global Driver Exchange Program. It was evident that the experience he gained in Europe has really paid off.
In this same race, the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R, the No. 1 car, won the GT500 class, making it two for two for the Nissan GT-R at Fuji Speedway.
