- Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
- What types of network device connections are there? (NAT type)
- Last Updated: Dec 25, 2007
What network device your PLAYSTATION®3 and the internet connection is connected with will also affect your connection environment.
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue classifies the customer’s environment regarding connection with the network device, as NAT types 1 to 3.
Typically, type 1 is best suited for utilizing the network service, and type 3 is the least suited, but there are exceptions. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue evaluates not just the existing NAT type but also the actual measured speeds on your connection environment, so please only think of this as a rough guideline.
What NAT type your connection environment is classified under, can be seen by viewing the bottom of the screen in [Settings] - [Network Settings] - [Settings and Connection Status List] menu on your PLAYSTATION®3.
Type 1
This is a condition in which the PLAYSTATION®3 is connected directly to the internet, and is best suited for online play.
Type 2
This is a condition in which the PLAYSTATION®3 is connected to the internet through a broadband router, but is provided with connectivity that is almost equivalent to a type 1 environment though UPnP and port forwarding. However, even if the NAT is identified as type 2, there are cases in which you will not be able to participate in online play.
Type 3
This includes all cases other than type 1 or 2. If judged as type 3, it will be more difficult to participate in online play. In this case, please refer to the Online Play Troubleshooting page listed below.
