Game Modes

“Gran Turismo” for the PSP® has been said to be a “Full Spec” game, even though it is on a portable system. What awaits you within? We’ll start explaining the overview of the game by first introducing gameplay in single player mode.

Your first gift.
When you enter your “Garage” you will be able to check the car you received. All cars you gain hereafter will be placed into this garage.

When you first start “Gran Turismo” for the PSP®, your first car will be given to you as a present. What car you get is a surprise!

This is the first car that marks your long car life starting now. You can challenge races in this car, or purchase a different car, its all up to you.

Enjoy your new car life!

What will you buy with your 100,000 credits?

You start the game with 100,000 credits. Go into the “Dealer” to purchase a car of your choice. The lineup of cars at the dealer will change after a certain period of time. If you can’t find a car you want at first, come visit the dealer again at a later date.

Test your skill in 3 modes
Select the mode, your car, and the track, and press the “OK” button to start the game. The interface is simple and intuitive, designed specifically for a portable game device.

For the single player mode, go to Single Race. In addition to the “Single Races”, you’ll find “Time Trial”, and “Drift Trial” here as well. Challenge the mode of your choice.

In “Single Race” and “Drift Trial”, you gain prizes according to your results. Save up credits to buy the cars you want!

If you want to build credits quickly however, we recommend playing in “Adhoc Mode” with other players.

3 Modes in “Single Race”
Single Race
Race against 3 rival cars!
This is the mode in which you race against 3 cars controlled by the CPU. In addition to the number of laps, you can also set “one-make” races in which all participants of the race are in identical cars.
Time Trial
Shorten your laptimes!
This is a mode in which you drive on a track by yourself, to try to shorten your lap times. The best lap can also be displayed as a “ghost” car.
Drift Trial
There is also a “Full Course Mode” where you can drift across the entire course.
This is a mode in which you intentionally make the car slide in corners, to gain points. In addition to the “Sector Mode” in which specific areas on the course are judged, there is also a “Full Course Mode” in which you are judged across the entire track.

Have fun while learning sports driving techniques

For those of you who are thinking “well, I’m not a good driver…”

The “Driving Challenge” mode is for first time players of “Gran Turismo”, as well as for intermediate players who want to step up their skills, and even experts who want to hone their skills further. Everyone can take on a large variety of challenges, to learn sports driving while having fun.

There is also an interesting tidbit waiting for those who progress in the game!

Everyone is a beginner at first. Try out the “Driving Challenge” to raise your skill level, one step at a time!

Starting from Block A, progress to Block H or Block I. There are different paths along the way, and those who are confident with their driving skill can challenge the harder routes.
The missions are set up by 6 challenges per block, and depending on your performance, you are given a gold, silver or bronze prize along with prize credits.
This is the instructions for the challenge. You can select “Start” to begin the challenge, but you can also press the adjacent “i” button to view the demo run and listen to the voice guide.

Your progress

In “Gran Turismo” for the PSP®, there are an enormous number of cars, races and challenges, and there are as many goals and ways to enjoy the game as there are players.

Want to find out how far you’ve progressed?

Check the “Status Report” to find out where you are at. You can check the number of cars you own, total driving distance, number of race wins, and completion level of the game, and there is also a “Recent Events” list, where you can check your latest actions.

Check out this section every once in a while as you progress in the game, to find your next goals!

Various data is shown in a list. The completion level of a challenge is displayed per prize. Go for the gold!
This is the Garage. You can sort them in 4 different ways, making it easier to find cars as your collection grows.
In “Recent Events”, you can check when and what you have done.

Relive that perfect drive, whenever and wherever you like.
“Gran Turismo Theatre”

In “Single Race” or “Driving Challenge”, you can save your driving record as replay data so that it can be viewed later.

Viewing in the “Gran Turismo Theatre”

Within the theatre, you can watch the replays you saved per track, from “Single Race”, ”Time Trial”, ”Drift Trial”, and ”Driving Challenge”, and you can also see the opening movie, and the ending movie as well if you have already progressed that far in the game.

You can relive that perfect drive, whenever and wherever you want, and show off your performance on the PSP®!
