Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
What kinds of internet connections are there?
Last Updated: Dec 25, 2007

What type of service contract you have with your internet service provider is a basic item that will affect your connection environment.

Normally, the faster the maximum connection speed is, the better the connection quality, but depending on your provider plan details and other factors, the actual connection environment may differ, so please think of this only as a rough guideline.

FTTH (Fiber Optic Line) Single household type
Maximum downstream connection speed: Approximately 100Mbps
This is a connection that uses a 100Mbps or 1GB FTTH (Fiber optic line) for a single household. There are cases in which a single person utilizes the line, or shares the line with several persons.

FTTH (Fiber Optic Line) Condominium/multiple resident housing complex type
Maximum downstream connection speed: Approximately 100Mbps
This is mainly used in condominiums and multiple resident housing complexes where a 100Mbps or 1GB FTTH (Fiber optic line) is shared with several tenants. Within the building, the line is distributed either with a LAN cable, a VDSL metal cable, or a wireless network.

ADSL
Maximum downstream connection speed: Approximately 50Mbps
This is a method in which a phone line used in the household is utilized to provide high speed data transmission.

CATV (Cable TV)
Maximum downstream connection speed: Approximately 40Mbps
This is a method in which a dedicated line used for a cable TV service is utilized to provide high speed data transmission.

Dial up connection
Maximum downstream connection speed: Depends on the service
An internet connection is provided through an analog phone line, ISDN, or mobile phone or PHS phone connection. Due to low connection speeds and difficulty in connecting the Playstation 3® in this manner, we do not recommend this type of connection to be used for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
