Overview of Multifunction Meter Features
The multifunction meter is displayed using the display screen of the CARWINGS navigation system, equipped standard on the new GT-R. The display is positioned on the immediate left side of the instrument panel, to minimize eye movement of the driver. When the “FUNCTION” button on the lower right corner of the screen is pressed, the display mode of the Multifunction Meter will be activated.
There are essentially 2 display systems in the Multifunction Meter. There are the preset screens, where up to 4 display configurations for information selected and combined by the user can be saved, and the summary display screens where multiple display for a certain group of information is possible; for example for acceleration, deceleration, steering operation, gear position and fuel economy. The buttons on the uppermost level of the screen is used to select between these, with “1-4” for selecting the preset screens, and “A-G” to select the summary display screens.
In the preset screens, in addition to selecting the display information, you can combine large or small palettes to change the display style as well.
For example, when driving on a race track, you can display the synthesized G on a large panel, while displaying engine oil and transmission oil temperatures on small panels. Up to 3 items can be displayed simultaneously when using a large panel, (one large panel and two small panels), and when using only small panels, you can display 6 items of information on a single screen.
Complete List of Preset Screens
To the left is the large palette display, and to the right is the small palette display screen.
PRESET 1
In this screen you can combine a large palette and two small palettes to display 3 pieces of information at a time. Initially, the boost gage and engine oil temperature/pressure are displayed by default.
PRESET 2
In this screen you can display 6 pieces of information using only small palettes. Initially, the screen displays water temperature, engine oil temperature/pressure, transmission oil temperature/pressure, and front torque distribution by default.
PRESET 3
This is a screen where the user can freely combine and configure the display using a large palette and two small palettes. The screen is initially blank by default.
PRESET 4
This is a screen where the user can freely combine and configure the display using only small palettes. The screen is initially blank by default.
ACCELERATION
Information regarding acceleration is grouped in this display. The large palette displays a history graph of acceleration in the last 20 seconds, and can be used as the index of acceleration ability and the smoothness of accelerator operation. If a set amount of G’s is exceeded, the graph turns red to caution the driver. The upper small palette is the turbo boost pressure gage, and the lower small palette is the level of accelerator opening.
BRAKING
Information regarding deceleration is grouped in this display. The large palette displays a history graph of deceleration in the last 20 seconds, and can be used as the index of deceleration ability and smoothness of braking. If a set amount of G’s is exceeded, the graph turns red to caution the driver. The upper small palette shows speed, and the lower small palette is the brake fluid pressure gage.
STEERING
Information regarding steering is grouped in this display. The large palette displays a history graph of turning G’s in the last 20 seconds, and can be used as an index of cornering performance and smoothness of steering operation. If a set amount of G’s is exceeded, the graph turns red to caution the driver. The upper small palette shows speed, and the lower small palette is steering angle gage.
GEAR POSITION
Information regarding gear selection is grouped in this display. The large palette displays the engine map indicator. The current gear and the driving condition during shift up/down is displayed by the color which changes dynamically. The changes in color indicate a higher fuel economy as it turns blue, and more towards acceleration as it turns red. The figure shows the car shifting up from 1st to 2nd. It indicates that the vehicle is at its power band, but that it will be possible gain more power if raised to 4th gear or higher. The upper small palette shows speed, and the lower small palette is the gear position display.
FUEL ECONOMY
Information regarding driving economy is grouped in this display. The large palette displays the ECO-judgment history. The ECO (fuel economy) level for the last 20 minutes is displayed in 10 levels. The upper small palette shows section fuel consumption gage, and the lower palette shows the current ECO level.
TIME LOGGER
This displays information for time measurements during driving. The large palette shows the section time. Section times can be recorded with the button on the steering wheel. The upper small palette shows speed, and the lower small palette shows the total measured time.
DRIVERS NOTE
This displays support information for long drives. The large palette shows the MARK list, which records intersections and highways that have been passed through automatically. The upper small palette shows the fuel gage and possible remaining driving distance (range), and the lower small palette shows the current driving distance.
