A support device for drivers
The GT-R concept appeared at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show, and provided the detonation fuse for the explosive return of the GT-R. Through following this car since before its release, and having it appear in the title “Gran Turismo Concept 2001 – Tokyo”, Gran Turismo has continued to seek out collaboration possibilities with the new generation GT-R. One successful result of this is the “Multifunction Meter” equipped on the new GT-R.
The development for this meter started in spring of 2006, with the words of the GT-R development manager, Kazutoshi Mizuno. “The next GT-R is going to be a car with performance levels unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. I want you to come up with a support device for drivers of this car”.
Upon hearing the proposal from Mr. Mizuno, Kazunori Yamauchi, series producer of Gran Turismo brought up an idea that he had been keeping warm for some time. It was something that had been brought to physical existence and tested in the development process of Gran Turismo by Mr. Yamauchi himself, and it was something that should be called the evolution of sports driving.
