Vision Gran Turismo
A celebration of "Gran Turismo"
Vision GT
The project started with a question from Kazunori Yamauchi: "Would you be willing to design your rendition of Gran Turismo for us?" The videogame’s name "Gran Turismo" (GT) refers to a 2-door sport car, known as a Grand Touring car in the automotive world.
The manufacturers who have answered our call are now delivering new Grand Touring cars in succession. “Vision Gran Turismo” is a 15th anniversary celebration that will be hosted by Gran Turismo, car manufacturers and users around the globe. The cars presented will appear one after another in Gran Turismo 6, and as those cars will be driven by more and more people, the festival will get bigger and bigger.

Volkswagen GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo
30
Movie
Volkswagen extends its GTI fleet for "Gran Turismo 6". Following the "GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo" designed specially for PlayStation® in 2014, the inventor of the GTI 2015 is now sending out the new "GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo" onto the virtual racetrack. The open-top roadster is now joined by a hardtop supercar.
Volkswagen has developed a new sports car for the digital world in the shape of the two-seater "GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo". The designers and engineers picked up on the legendary GTI DNA from a visual and technical standpoint. In a further development, the styling of the iconic compact sports cars was once again reinterpreted and further endowed with a 503 HP (503 BHP) VR6 TSI engine. A 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox transfers the power via the 4MOTION four-wheel drive to the track. Up to 665 Nm (67.8 kgfm) of torque delivers mighty thrust. And the handling characteristics have been tuned specifically for the "Gran Turismo" racetracks.
Despite the progressive interpretation of the GTI concept, the classic Golf design is instantly recognisable. From a conceptual viewpoint, the entire concept of the virtual GTI as outlined is geared to the physical laws of the racetrack: by intensively optimising the proportions and body surfaces, the designers managed to achieve superlative performance – with a low centre of gravity, aerodynamically honed front area and very high downforce. The targeted usage of carbon-fibre features on the body surfaces and in numerous other details reduces weight.
The body of the "Supersport" has been aerodynamically optimised through numerous features. The front-end, for instance, has been fine-tuned, with the designers placing the vertical light modules further outboard; they are connected via a spoiler element to underscore the width of the GTI and enhance its visual presence. The air flow through the body has also been enhanced with a large air inlet boosting aerodynamic performance at the front. The airstream flows past the front wheels and is practically sucked out of the wheel arches in order to cool down the brake discs. The hallmark GTI honeycomb structure adorns all the air inlet and outlet openings.
Aerodynamics and cooling are just as important in the strengthened rear section: downstream of the striking roof spoiler, a rear wing creates the necessary downforce at the rear axle. From a design point of view, the carbon-fibre structure which holds the rear wing protrudes from the C-pillar. An aerodynamic feature on the roof ensures that the airflow to the rear wing is perfect. Furthermore, air flows through the rear wheel arches in order to optimally dissipate the thermal energy produced during braking. At the rear, the powerfully sculpted, low-set shoulder catches the eye, which extends well into the rear – as typical for this type of GTI supercar it continues behind the C-pillar and merges with the wheel vent at the lower area. The external diffuser is equally striking. The flat rear lights have been visually adapted to the extraordinary flat and dynamic proportions of the rear end.
Like the "Roadster", the "Supersport" is also fitted with 20-inch GTI alloy wheels. The multipiece GTI wheels were refined further; a star consisting of five spokes, which are finished in ultralight carbon-fibre, sits proudly in the centre. Between the wheels, the two classic GTI stripes can be found above the side sill – also a homage to the Golf GTI I. The same applies to the hallmark black film around the edges of the rear window, which is finished in a carbon-fibre look for the "Supersport". A helmet compartment and a racing tank have also been built into the car. The "GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo" can be configured in the four colours of "Reflex Silver", "Gran Turismo Red", "Lapiz Blue" or "Oryx White".
On the racetracks in the world of GT6, the unmistakably charismatic looks of the new "GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo" in the digital rear-view mirror are likely to make the other contenders more than a little nervous.

INFINITI CONCEPT Vision Gran Turismo
26
Movie
Infiniti is a premium brand that entered the market in 1989. Known for its category defining designs like the original INFINITI G sedan, G Coupe and FX, cars that then and today as INFINITI Q50, Q60 and QX70 embody uncompromised integration of performance engineering and design. Beyond these iconic products is our commitment to the highest expression of engineering excellence, Formula 1!
The INFINITI CONCEPT Vision Gran Turismo is a project that started as an ambitious global competition to “design a pure INFINITI GT car”, and the winning design was born from the inspiration of INFINITI Design Beijing. Part beautiful and part beast, its shape is powerful, sensual, and ambitious; a mix of track machine and the dream of our Chinese designer to create a seductive racing language for INFINITI.
Part artistry and part science, the process of developing the design of INFINITI CONCEPT Vision Gran Turismo started with hand sketching refined in the digital world, refined again by hand sculpting then returned to digital for final refinement. One designer shared that his vision and inspiration was to capture the rise of the young generation, the romantic and sensational Asian creativity, which established itself by constantly breaking new ground. This desire to break new ground includes the dream to take this GT to a real race one day.
Needless to say, this project went beyond a mere study of styling and involved thorough examination of aerodynamic and engine performance. The front mid-ship / trans-axle powertrain is a combination of 4.5L V8 N/A engine and 1 motor. In a low-speed area, the motor delivers overwhelming torque to the ferocious beast, and in a high-speed area, the V8 N/A engine delivers immense power with sensual exhaust note as though its top speed is unlimited. The trans-axle layout brings the finely distributed 45:55 front/rear mass balance that fills users with the joy of driving by actively drifting the rear. Young engineers with great driving skills made many laps of virtual tests to refine the dynamic characteristics. As for aerodynamics, the under-floor airflow control, front and back diffusers, and uniquely-shaped rear spoiler enable this car to demonstrate high performance without compromising the impact of the body design.
With this concept study we look forward to countless virtual pilots breaking record after record at every track around the world.

Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo
19
Movie
Conceived as a “Garage 56” Le Mans Experimental Prototype, the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo is a look into the future of motorsports and inspired by the combined sensations of flying in a wing suit and a Moto GP race bike... an experience where the 2X pilot flies around the circuit, headlong, just inches from the race surface. The 2X’s Chevrolet power unit is unlike anything seen on the track before... it literally thrusts itself down the track with laser pulse shock waves generated by an advanced propulsion system from Chevrolet.
The driving position creates one of the most immersive and exciting experiences ever imagined in four wheel motorsports. The vehicle architecture and design take its shape as a result of the “forward flight” driving position, one where the pilot becomes at one with the structure of the car. Once on board, with the canopy retracted to the closed position, the 2X forms a totally unique envelope around the pilot’s outstretched body. Hand and foot controls operate independently and involve all of the frictionless, magnetic bearing wheels. Vehicle acceleration, deceleration and direction is controlled by the movement & physical inputs of the 2X pilot, a true application of four points of control. Braking is handled by a combination of Brembo magnetic re-gen callipers and deployable AeroBrake panels in the 2X bodywork.
The integral BodyFrame is created using a unique “layup schedule” which allows the entire structure to act in unison with the 2X suspension. The main body also incorporates the super-ridged propulsion structure which ensures absolute accuracy of the thrust parabola to the laser pulse cone. The variable positioning of the thrust cone vanes serve to create propulsion and downforce by the simultaneous use of this multi-vane adjustability and a lower Thrust Vectoring panel. The combination of these two technologies allows the Chaparral 2X pilot to fine tune downforce to the exact spot on a given circuit, actually “pressing” the tyre’s contact patch onto the track surface and enhancing mechanical grip where needed most.
The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo. The spirit of Jim Hall’s amazing legacy of motorsport innovation embodied in a bold statement. One which will revolutionize the future of Le Mans Experimental prototypes. Like nothing you’ve ever seen or heard before.

TOYOTA FT-1 Vison Gran Turismo
15
Movie
Following the excitement of the FT-1 release in the Gran Turismo 6 game, the CALTY design team from Toyota’s North American Design branch has taken their dream one step further in creating the ultimate racing car, the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo.
The designers’ original intention in designing the FT-1 was to unabashedly appeal to the die-hard car enthusiasts. In the same way, the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo is designed for die-hard Gran Turismo fans. The designers focused on keeping the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo authentic for the virtual racetracks of the game, to maximise their driving pleasure.
As the bones and architecture of the FT-1 already lent themselves to cooling and down force through “function-sculpting,” the vision version just needed to be enhanced as a pure racing car. The designers closely studied racetracks and racing cars, and applied their research into the styling. A deep sense of rawness is evident in the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo, due to its purely function-driven design aesthetics. The fenders and tires are wider for extreme grip on the track. The enlarged air intakes provide increased cooling, and a larger rear wing and additional front canards have been added for even more down force. The rear diffuser has been enlarged with multiple vertical fins, and is moved further back for cleaner airflow.
The FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo looks and feels the way it performs, so the driver can speed through the racetracks with the same sensation and thrill of real racing.

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo
18
Movie
In its 80 year history, Nissan has always continued to pursue the possibilities of sports driving. Especially in GT cars with a focus on Grand Touring, it has succeeded in establishing a unique brand image in achieving unbeatable levels of performance balanced with daily utility and comfort. And now, they have brought out their vision of the near future, and the next generation GT Concept; the “NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo”.
Through digitalization of development environments, expressions in design and development processes have been undergoing a revolutionary change in recent years. As designers are now introduced to environments where they can express and share their insights more quickly, they have discovered new possibilities in realizing their imaginations in tangible forms; this time in the virtual environment called Gran Turismo. And the styling study modeled virtually by young designers of the UK in turn set aflame the passions of young engineers on the development side in Japan, instigating a variety of technical evaluations and simulations that led to the ignition of the 3D vehicle in the Vision Gran Turismo Project.
The styling proposed by designers in Nissan Design Europe based in London who have been in touch with the UK’s long running culture in racing and Grand Tourers, takes on a look that shows an authentic silhouette, backed by bold details and a thorough technical knowledge that is at the very core of Nissan. This is what lead to features like the prominently shaped fenders that are fitted to the front and rear like wings, in front and rear of the frame surrounding the 2+2 cabin.
These organic-looking front fenders and the geometric rear fenders both surround the tires to meet each other, and the air rushing forth from the front is cut apart and led into the body with its precision features. The air entering the front side inlet goes through the inner side of the wheels, and is drawn out in an accelerated manner due to the exhaust under the front fender outlet. This allows the body to cut through the wall of air at high speeds with minimal effort. Behind this point a flow is created in the rear fender allowing the air to escape behind, minimizing the turbulence behind the car. If you focus just on the airflow, you will realize that despite its boxy shape, it is configured much like a LeMans racing car.
The rear active wing is raised or lowered according to speed, and at 300 km/h (186 mph) it pushes over 400 kg of downforce directly onto the differential block. At the under floor, the front upsweep which leads air from the under floor to the front fender outlet combined with the large rear diffuser creates a strong vacuum, producing downforce equivalent to that of racing cars. There are many ideas like this which utilize everything for a driving advantage, effectively applied along with its speed.
The powertrain utilizes a high performance hybrid FR-4WD system with a V6 twin turbo engine, combined with 3 motors. The high output motors in the front and rear produces instant and powerful acceleration under any condition with the push of the pedal, and the acceleration is maintained by the engine to your next corner. The torque vectoring of the individual front motors on the left and right, and the active suspension maximizing aerodynamic performance at all times results in smooth cornering performance even at extremely high speeds, perfecting a car that packs performance that can unleash the driver at any speed range.
The NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo is a combination of designer intuition and detailed technical evaluation, a vision, a possibility, and a proposal made by Nissan for the coming future.
